Why so much of their vinyl ends up backordered or sold out

A big part of the 156/Silence vinyl story is simple supply vs demand: once a color variant sells through, retailers often switch listings to sold out or backorder.

• SharpTone has shown “People Watching” vinyl variants as SOLD OUT on their official store pages. 

• Other retailers list the same title as sold out as well. 

• Some shops explicitly mark variants as backordered and note multi-week fulfillment windows. 

Rising value: when pressings disappear, resale climbs

When official stock dries up, collectors often turn to secondary markets—and prices can rise above original retail.

Example: one Discogs listing for a People Watching variant shows a median price around $41.75 with highs reaching higher, while original retail has been listed at $25 on the label store. 

That gap is basically the collector premium: scarcity + demand + “I need this variant now.”

Will they press more?

The good news is there are signs of continued momentum—including new activity and new releases—which often leads to fresh vinyl variants or represses over time. The band has also promoted new vinyl variants in the past, suggesting more pressings can happen when demand is loud enough.
